Top stories for the week of September 1 - 5, 2008
It was all Palin, all the time this week for bloggers, whether they were talking about politics, parenting, or anything in between. And what's not to like (if you're a tabloid) about a hockey-mom veep-candidate who loves religion, oil exploration, guns, her pregnant teenage daughter, and her son who leaves for Iraq on September 11? It's every American story rolled into one extra-strength package (well, most American's don't care about hockey). "The Palin family has become the Spears family of Alaska," exults the dishy Dlisted, celebrating Gov. Palin's four-cover grand slam. But in reality it's so much more nuanced. "Sarah Palin's story is my story."
All the Apple Rumors: Let's Rock!
So Apple sends out invitations that say "Let's Rock" for a media event to be held in San Francisco next Tuesday, and suddenly everyone is singing that Jobs and Co. are planning something musical. Let the speculation begin: "iTunes 8 does seem likely as it's been two years since iTunes 7 launched," notes VentureBeat. Kevin Rose, whose secret sources nailed the date of next week's announcement before it was public, says in Kevinrose Blogg that iTunes 8 will include "Genius," software that generates awesome playlists (what else would you want a genius to do?). Also: HD quality TV shows and a trippy new visualizer! And how about a super-slim, fourth generation iPod nano, says MacRumors. iTunes probably won't get an all-you-can-eat subscription service, predicts Silicon Alley Insider, but there might be "new MacBooks, or maybe something completely new, like an Apple tablet or a TV." Nice, but can't anyone foresee anything even crazier that that?
